HOW TO INCREASE WEBSITE VIEWS WITH PINTEREST
Pinterest is more than just a platform for middle-aged women looking for craft projects and recipes … although you can find some pretty amazing content in those categories!
What many people don’t realize is that Pinterest is one big, pretty search engine! Keep reading to find out how you can increase traffic to your website in any niche by using Pinterest to its full potential!
FACT: Over 70% of people that use Pinterest have purchased something they found on Pinterest.
What does this mean? Basically that Pinterest is the largest online catalog in the world. With that being said, you want to get YOUR products & services on the front pages of that catalog! I bet you are wondering how you do that exactly?
Here are 6 steps to help you increase your website views with Pinterest:
STEP 1 - SWITCH TO A BUSINESS ACCOUNT
Switching to a Pinterest Business Account is important for a number of reasons but the main 2 reasons are so that you claim your website, which will allow for Rich Pins and give you access to analytics for both your Pinterest Account and your website. This will enable you to see which of your Blog Posts and pins are performing the best and who is pinning your content!
STEP 2 - OPTIMIZE YOUR PINTEREST PROFILE
Start with using a clear, professional photo of yourself and descriptive keywords that are S.E.O friendly. You want as many ways as possible to be found in a search. For example, Jennifer Dawn - Brand Like A Boss | Business Growth | Social Media Marketing | Blogging Tips
This makes it clear to people right away what kind of content they can expect from you AND includes the keywords that you want to be found for.
STEP 3 - OPTIMIZE YOUR BLOG POST
One of the best ways to increase your website traffic is to make sure you are utilizing S.E.O. Make sure that you research your keywords so that you can optimize both your blog post and your pins. Each and every blog post should contain your targeted keywords and at least 3 beautiful, pinnable images. (You do not have to be a graphic designer to accomplish this, Canva has some pretty great templates to choose from.) I also recommend hiding your images in the post so that it is not cluttered or confusing to your readers.
STEP 4 - MAKE USE OF ALT TAGS
You are going to notice a bit of a theme here, it is all about optimizing your keywords so that you can be found in searches. If you pre-populate each pinnable image with alt tags and descriptions, this makes it easy for others to re-pin your images with your keywords already embedded into the Pin. #MAGIC
STEP 5 - OPTIMIZE YOUR BOARD TITLES
I am about to get very real here. When naming your boards please ( pretty please) make sure that you are using relevant keywords and keep the target audience in mind. What do I mean? For Example, if you wanted to create a board about desserts, while you might be tempted to name it “Things I Would Like To Stuff In My Face” … DON’T DO IT!
#1 Harsh Truth - no one cares what YOU want to stuff in your face. They want a solution to their problem. Perhaps they are looking for a sugar-free dessert or a no-bake dessert and your pin needs to offer the solution they are looking for. Most people have an attitude of what’s in it for me? So you need to tell them what’s in it for them by using relevant keywords in your Board Titles as well. This is where the categories feature on your boards comes in handy. Rather than lumping all of your dessert recipes on one board, segment them into categories.
- Gluten-Free Desserts
- Sugar-Free Desserts
- No-Bake Desserts
- Ice Cream
I am sure you get the idea. Make it easy for people to find exactly what they are looking for.
STEP 6 - TRIBES & GROUP BOARDS
Following the above guidelines will make it easier for you to get accepted in to and promoted by other pinners. Create beautiful pinnable images with your targeted keywords in the description and other pinners will be more than happy to re-pin your content! Tribes, Group Boards and Pinterest itself, tend to favor fully optimized post and pins.
(TIP: They also favor fresh content. This can be in the form of a new blog post or a new pinnable image)
And I will leave you with one final Bonus Tip - Pay attention to your first 5 pins of the day because that is what Pinterest will be looking at and pin at the optimal time. If you would like to know what the optimal time is, leave a comment below.
